ANDY AVIATION INC  Air/Float Plane Adventures -Florida and Alaska

Home

For the real Alaska/Florida float plane experience Andy Aviation is the company you need.  If you've always wanted to add a special rating or just brush up on your float plane skills, give us a call at Andy Aviation.  Your instruction will include operating in a variety of terrain conditions and many different types of water operating situations. The Float Instruction is complete and varied enough that you will feel confident and become a competent, qualified float plane pilot when you are certified.  A Float Rating will make you a better pilot on wheels.   We are in Alaska in the summer (Mid-May to Mid- September) and in Cross City, Florida the rest of the year.

Terry Barnes, our CFII instructor, has been flying for over 30 years, instructing for 25 years, and has the experience that can help make you a better pilot whether you are working towards a license, additional rating, or a flight review.  Whether it be a Private Pilot license or Commercial license, Terry is your man.  You can get your Float Rating by taking our standard course or we can custom design a course based on location, time available, and the type of water flying you are most interested in.  A rating in Alaska also allows you to get mountain flying instruction and experience!

How much does it cost for a Float Rating?  Naturally, it depends on the time it takes to prepare you for the check ride and also make sure you are a competent float pilot.  The time it takes depends on your pilot skill, recent flight experience, and the type of aircraft you have been flying.  Most pilots spend about $1,700 (Florida) or $1900 (Alaska) including your check ride.  You can spend less but we urge you to compare the airplane you'll train in, the hours of  instruction you'll get, and the variety of conditions you'll actually experience instead of watching a videotape to "learn" techniques that you might not be able to experience for real in a one or two day course format.  If you want to fly floats in Alaska, either for pleasure or commercially, Andy Aviation is the place for you!  Not sure?  Take an Introductory Flight for $100 and you'll be convinced and we'll log the time toward your rating!

How long does it take?  Four days is about right.  That spreads the flying out enough to keep it from being a "cram course" and let's you truly learn.  Four days also usually allows time for different conditions to occur for real training.  What really counts is doing the job right!
